York is the gem of the North, i wrote in another blog. Places i mention are in no particular order. This is about 6 orDSCN4272.JPG 7 short breaks taken over about 2 years. RICHMOND in North Yorkshire is a market town with a castle, market square,and a Georgian Theatre. The river Swale flows through Richmond. Acccess is by car or bus from Darlington.-------------------DURHAM is the county town of Durham,access by car, bus and train on main east coast line. Durham is on a hill ,with Castle, impressive Cathedral and University. A lovely place.DSCN0006.JPGDSCN0012.JPG11c77130-4d17-11e8-bc1f-dfba0159bfde.JPG-------------BERWICK ON TWEED is on the England / Scotland border, changing hands in history many times, ending up in England. The town is surrounded by rampart walls which can be walked on. Good views of the North Sea and River Tweed. The town was a favourite of L.S.Lowery the famous painter. From here a trip by bus can be made to Bamburgh castle. 95cc8590-4d19-11e8-bc1f-dfba0159bfde.JPGBerwick is on the East Coast main train line.------PEAK DISTRICT in Derbyshire is a lovely area which includes BUXTON a Georgian and Victorian architecture town with the Cresent from 1780. Pooles Caverns is a marvellous underground cave. Buxton is famous for its Opera House. From Buxton by bus is Matlock Bath in a gorge, with the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham. Nearby is the Crich Tramway museum.--------In the county of Cheshire is the city of CHESTER, lovely place to be. The city started in Roman times ,has a city wall that encircles the city centre. There is a cathedral , castle, and riverside walks. Near the city wall is the Racecourse. Chester is a good place to use has a base for trips off, like North Wales.----DSCN0201.JPGDSCN0240.JPGDSCN0207.JPG==LINCOLN is in Lincolnshire, is a Roman town with a Cathedral,and 11 century Castle,both are up a steep hill of a street called Steep Hill..There are riverside walks of the River Witham.
